If you think of it logically, Germany is older than Italy, but if you were to pinpoint the time frame in which Germany actually became Germany, then it doesn't align up with that fact. Ludwig to be Germany completley should be younger than Feliciano, so really, methinks that Ludwig became Germany when Prussia annouced him as his little brother after the Holy Roman Empire was disolved. And since what happens to the countries effect the nations, that happening and not disappearing could have affected Ludwig's memory, thus the explanation on why he didn't recoginze Italy when he was in the box of tomatoes. Just what I think though and I'm pretty sure I'm not completely cohesive right now, but, yeah. Ah, I spend too much time on this XD. -Laith^^

Actually the HRE's main countries were Germany and Prussia, so when the empire split it became Germany and Prussia which is why they are brothers. I spent so long on this topic, I totally agree with the whole memory thing though....

about the earlier comment. perhaps the time frame is off the way they go about it but if you remeber the scene with britain(england) and america and how america grew so quickly maybe the age represents population of the contries?

Everyone here says that germany would be older than italy, but thats not true, guys. Germany as a country officially exists only for around 150 years, before, it was the holy roman empire of german nation, the "deutscher bund", and and and ... most of the time saxony, thuringia, bavaria etc. were states for themselves.
